It is generally accepted that Donald Trump has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. But does he also have the poorly understood Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)? BPD is also known as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder which is a better name and gives people some idea of the signs and symptoms of the condition.
In answering this question it is important to know that a person can have more than one mental illness if they meet the criteria for each.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – 5th Edition (DSM-5) contains the current official list of mental illnesses according to the American Psychiatric Association. On page 666 they list these 4 traits as being relatively more pronounced in Borderline Personality Disorder and the way to distinguish the two conditions:
1. Unstable self-image
2. Abandonment fears
Trump appears to display each of these traits as I explain at https://trumpsbrain.net/trump-criteria/. These are examples of some of his self-destructive tendencies: multiple sexual encounters where he could have contracted sexually transmitted diseases, infidelity leading to two divorces, reckless financial dealings leading to 6 bankruptcies, and demanding that the United States Football League (USFL) sue the National Football League which was unsuccessful and ultimately lead to the dissolution of the USFL.
Thus it appears that Donald Trump suffers from both Borderline and Narcissistic Personality Disorders.
